You may or may not be surprised to learn that despite all my energy and good intentions, I am inherently a lazy person. I may seem to be always on my feet or doing chores, but in the end, if it can feasibly be left for another day, you better believe I’m going to leave it for another day. Let future me deal with it, present me would rather put up her feet and scroll through Twitter in this bit of free time that I have while Lilly sleeps.
Part of the problem of course is that I’m not organized. Not even a little bit. Everyone needs a break of course, least of all busy mommies, but it starts to become a problem when I’ll open Twitter or WordPress even before I start on my chores, and before I know it that ‘quick look’ will become 45 mins and I’ll be behind on my day even before it begins.
Sure, I make lists upon lists of things-to-do and things-to-buy and things to remember, but do I stick to those lists? Not really, no. I end up trying to multitask my way through whatever falls into my path while everything else gets relegated to ‘I’ll do it tomorrow. I’m doing ‘things’ all day but there’s no schedule or organization to it. It all comes down to what has to be done and what can be left for later. So I’ll diligently vacuum my living room and kitchen every day because anyone who comes over will see those areas, but put off vacuuming the bedrooms for days on end. Clean the oven? I’ll get to it eventually. Laundry? I’m on top of it, just don’t ask me where all the clean clothes are because they’re still sitting here waiting to be folded and put away 3 days after laundry day.
Don’t get me wrong, my house is actually quite clean and not the pigsty I make it out to be. I clean and cook daily and even manage to keep Lilly bathed and in fresh clothes, which is quite a feat given how quickly toddlers manage to get themselves dirty again. Despite how to put together and on top of things I seem though, I know where the messes are, and where I’ve let things slide, and that annoys me. If I was a little more organized, I’d probably get more done in less time and feel more satisfied at the end of the day.
Maybe.
It’s worth a try at least, right?
So with that purpose in mind, I have decided to at least try and get more organized with all the varying things I seem to be juggling every day. I need to plan my day, and I need to organize my time so I have time to do things for myself as well. Sure I could flip through tv channels after Lilly goes to bed before crashing myself, or I could get in that 20 min workout I’ve been putting off all day. I could put off scrubbing the bathtub till I end up guilt-scrubbing it at 2 am on a Tuesday morning, or I could make a schedule of household chores to do each week so there’s a day (or days) for everything and nothing gets put off indefinitely.
That’s the hope at least. Here’s to hoping I succeed!
Wish me luck🙂
on the plus side, I get to buy a pretty new planner and that always makes me happy🙂
Do you think of yourself as organized or a hot mess? What do you do to stay organized? Any tips and tricks are always welcome!
