Countdown to November

October is already half gone and Fall is finally here, which can only mean one thing: November, the month of NaBloPoMo and NaNoWrMo and arguably the most creative month of the year, is almost here! January is all well and good for new years resolutions and the starting of new things, but all those resolutions and promises so ardently made in the euphoria of a ‘new year, new me’ mindset are usually forgotten before the month is even halfway through. No, for me,  like many other writers and bloggers all over the world, November is the month for starting new projects, creating new things and cementing good habits. You will never get this amount of motivation, the proliferation of inspiration, the unending support and the sheer size of community for writing at any other time of the year. All you have to do is pick your poison and dive in: novel writing or blogging?

NaNoWrMo

National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWrMo) is just what the name implies: you commit to writing every single day for the entire month and come out the other end of the journey with the first draft of an entire novel! But it’s not that cut and dry either: there are hundreds of communities and thousands of people doing the exact same thing as you and there is unending support, inspiration, help with writer’s block and energy in the air to help you actually achieve your goal. If there’s one month where you actually might write (or at least get started on) that novel you’ve always wanted to write, it’s November.

Novel writing not your cup of tea? Than try NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) where you commit to posting daily for the entire month together with thousands of bloggers the world over! I took part in NaBloPoMo last year and though I missed a day or two here and there, I can safely say its the most fun I’ve ever had!

NaBloPoMo

Which brings me to my current predicament: this November should I do NaBloPoMo again or should I start work on that novel I’ve been promising myself I’ll write one day? I’m already lacking motivation and in need of inspiration, so should I start something big that I don’t even know if I’ll be able to finish? Or is this just the right push I need to at least get started? Or should I just stick to blogging and put the idea of novel writing back into the attic for another year? Decisions, decisions, too many decisions, what to do?

Anyone got any suggestions for me?

  1. I think NaBloPoMo is the most realistic thing I can commit to. I have another project to do, but I’m pretty sure I won’t have much time to write at all, so 1600+ words a day is unlikely….

Good luck if you do decide to go for it! 🙂

  2. I really enjoyed NaBloPoMo last year, but I’m really struggling to post even regularly twice a week lately, I feel like I should get myself into a better blogging habit before I give it another go. Looking forward to all your posts if you decide to go BloPoMo this year! 🙂
