Sacrifice

Motherhood is a lot of things, many of them good, many of them frustrating, many things that just are. It is a very personal experience, one that is different for every woman who goes through it, unique to each individual mother and child.

One thing though that is a defining characteristic to motherhood as a whole is sacrifice. It is the sleep that is sacrificed for a hungry baby. It is the time that is sacrificed for a toddler who just has to walk down every aisle at the grocery store. It is the career that is sacrificed to stay home with your child. It is the lunches, movies, parties and coffee dates that are sacrificed because the toddler needs you. It’s the rest that is sacrificed to stay awake for your coughing baby. It’s the alone time with your husband that is sacrificed because there is no one to babysit. It is the books that could have been read, stories that could have been written, projects that could have been completed.

It is all of these things and so much more.

And in the end, it is ALL worth it. You look at your child, this little human who seems to have her very own personality and is becoming her very own little person, and your heart just about bursts with joy. You look at her, and you see her smiling back at you, and you know that this right here, this is what love is. Unconditional, irrevocable love. And for love, no sacrifice is too big to make.

  1. So true, every day but I wouldn’t change it for the world…although I could do with a little reminder when we are 15 minutes late getting out the door and Monkey won’t put his shoes on! Thank you 🙂 #momsterslink

  2. So beautiful. And so true. I can feel a lot of changes in the air and I am trying to figure out how to settle them but one thing I know for sure…motherhood is what keeps me grounded…keeps me motivated…and even on my craziest days…reminds me that I am only human. Thanks for sharing this with #momsterslink.
